Summer 2011 Update August 22nd, 2011
We hope you are all having a great summer! We’ve been hard at work on a side-view physics-based baseball game, which is a lot of fun to play (and develop) and quite a challenge. Its going to be called “Home Runs” / “Jonrones” and should be out in time for the World Series!
We’ve also got new ports of all your favorite games for all the new phones that have come out this summer, so you should be able to find Armadillo Gold Rush, Monster Smash, School Break, and Perro de Bolsillo on your latest phones.
We hope you are enjoying your summer, and we look forward to launching at least 1 more game this year after Home Runs (we’ve got some more that we haven’t announced yet but are in development).
Stunts and Prototyping for iPhone March 28th, 2011
We’ve been adding a lot of new features to the game, including a fun feature we call “Stunts”. These are a little bit like Achievements on XBLA or Trophies on PSN, but instead of just reaching a single goal, you can continue to improve on them. As you play the game, we keep track of how well you’ve done at all sorts of stunts and you can continue to beat them for each level and across the whole game.
We’ve also started porting our game over to iPhone and iPad using the openframeworks library. We started out with over 30,000 errors! Its going to be a bit of a challenge to port our BREW framework over to openframework, but once we get things working across platforms, we’ll be able to make iPhone, BREW, iPad, Mac, Linux, and PC builds pretty easily. This will help us prototype quicker and share our prototypes with other people who don’t have the exact device we are developing for.
A New Game… March 16th, 2011
We’ve been working on a prototype for a new physics-based platformer, which is pretty exciting for us. Its based on the awesome Box2D engine, which we’ve optimized for slower handsets. Right now, we’ve got prototype levels, level editor, a simple menu framework, and test artwork. The game is already fun, so thats a great sign for things to come! Right now we are working on mockups for better art, improvements to the level editor, and tuning some of the playability to make it more exciting to play. Things are coming along fast so every day we can see some tangible progress!
Holiday Charity Photos March 10th, 2011
Last November, we were asked to take part in a holiday charity event to benefit young children in Latin America. It was quite an adventure for us. We talked with our partners in Latin America to find out what toys were popular, ordered several huge boxes of toys, repacked them all, and shipped them via air to Venezuela. Helpful hint: don’t try to do this last minute as its very expensive to ship hundreds of toys via FedEx.
Needless to say, the toys were a big hit, and we were really happy to give back to the communities that have helped support us since we launched our first title in Latin America in 2004.
Here are some photos of the children. Thanks again for all your support and helping us make this charity donation possible.
